Globe, JAJAH sign deal on VoIP solution for OFWs

Globe Telecom, the country’s second largest telecommunications firm, and JAJAH – an Internet company that provides something touted as the verbal equivalent of a tweet – today announced a partnership to deliver VoIP services to Filipinos abroad. With some 10 million Filipinos living outside the Philippines, the partnership targets overseas Pinoys. Globe said in a statement Monday this is a chance for Filipinos to call home simply and affordably. VoIP or Voice over Internet Protocol is a technology for modifying an analog audio signal – such as a voice over a telephone line – into a digital signal that may be transmitted over the internet. JAJAH general manager Ori Soen said in the statement, “With Filipinos spread all over the world, Globe Telecom has a unique opportunity to build its customer base beyond its borders. JAJAH is delivering services that work in over 200 countries around the world, demonstrating how operators can leverage JAJAH’s global platform to expand their market and customer base." According to the Globe International Business Group head, Rizza Maniego-Eala, “It is a constant need for millions of Filipinos around the world to stay connected with friends and family back home. With JAJAH’s help, Globe Telecom will be able to significantly expand its direct-to-end user retail VoIP calling service. Partnering with Jajah allows us to ride on their global footprint." The VoIP service will be built on the JAJAH IP Communications Platform, which enables both telecommunications operators and internet companies to manage cutting edge calling services, said Globe. Globe is the latest teleco operator to partner with JAJAH since the latter was acquired by Telefonica Europe in early 2010. — AY/VS, GMA News
