Security beefed up for Coast Guard leadership turnover in Manila

Security was beefed up at the Port Area in Manila early Tuesday morning for the turnover of command of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). Presidential Security Group and Philippine Ports Authority men beefed up PCG personnel in securing Pier 15 for the ceremonies, which President Benigno Aquino III was expected to attend. The security personnel inspected people going into the Pier 15 area along with their baggage. Retiring PCG commandant Admiral Wilfedo Tamayo was to turn over the top PCG post to vice commandant for operations Admiral Ramon Liwag, radio dzBB’s Carlo Mateo reported. Liwag is a graduate of the Philippine Military Academy’s Class 1979. Tamayo, who said he plans to spend more time with his family, had challenged Liwag and the PCG to sustain the campaign for safe sea travel and effective rescue operations. — LBG, GMA News
