1 killed in Caloocan shootout; 2 ‘salvage’ victims found in Sampaloc

One of four suspected robbers was killed in an encounter with police elements in Caloocan City, even as Manila cops found two bodies – believed to be “salvage" (summary execution) victims – dumped in Sampaloc district. In Caloocan City, one of four suspected robbers was shot dead after an encounter with a team from the Philippine National Police’s Criminal Investigation and Detection Group. The encounter happened after four robbers robbed a passenger jeep. But three other members of the gang managed to get away after the shootout, dzBB’s Allan Gatus reported Tuesday. “Nag-declare agad ng holdapan ... Apat sila, ang gamit nila pen gun at kutsilyo. Isa lang (ang napatay), ang tatlo nakatakas," said the jeepney driver, initially identified as Eduardo Tenorio. Tenorio said the suspects managed to divest his passengers of their valuables. In Manila, dzBB’s Carlo Mateo reported the bodies of two "salvage" victims were dumped in a dark area along Maria Clara Street in Manila’s Sampaloc district. Residents said they saw the sacks before dawn, and thought at first that the sacks contained garbage. The heads were wrapped in packaging tape while the necks showed signs they were strangled with wire. One of the victims was wearing a white shirt and dark pants. The second had tattoos in the arm and knees, and was wearing camouflage shorts and a blue polo shirt. A separate report on dzRH radio said one of the residents called the police after noticing the sacks had contents shaped like human body parts. “Mga 100 kilos nilalaman nito, mga edad 35 to 40 ang mga ito," said one of the residents at Barangay 496. Meanwhile, in Rizal province, police secured a row of pawnshops along Manuel L. Quezon Street in San Isidro village in Angono town after a group of men reportedly sneaked into the sewerage system under the area. The police cited initial claims from residents that the suspects planned to sneak into the pawnshops early morning, radio dzBB’s Glen Juego reported. — LBG/RSJ, GMA News
