Pregnant Pinay nabbed in Indonesia for $65K shabu

Indonesian customs officials arrested a pregnant Filipino woman at the Ngurah Rai Airport on Monday for attempting to smuggle 324.87 grams of methamphetamine or shabu worth $65,000. Customs agents caught Maria Cecilia Lopez swallowing 41 capsules filled with shabu, according to a news report of Indonesia Today. Bali Made Wijaya, customs head of supervision, said shabu is now being distributed by drug dealers using pregnant women as couriers. "It seems that this a new mode with the intention of fooling officers. They [are] probably expecting that pregnant women receive less harsh treatments from officials," Wijaya said. To prove that she was pregnant, Lopez showed the customs doctor letters and X-ray results that confirm her pregnancy, the report said. Eventually, Wijaya said they had checked her stomach "carefully and it was really hard unlike other pregnant women. After the X-ray, we found suspicious objects shaped like capsule inside her." The report said that customs agents were careful in expelling the capsules inside Lopez's stomach. "Officers did not use laxative drugs as they usually do in previous cases. They resorted to a more natural way by continuously feeding the suspect with milk," according to the report. The case of Lopez has been transferred to the Bali police for further legal process, the report added. – Jesse Edep, VVP, GMA News
