PHL boxers secure visas in time for World Junior Championship

Two Filipina boxers have been given the green light by the Turkish Embassy to participate in the World Junior Youth Women’s Boxing Championship slated April 24 to May 1 in Antalya, Turkey. This was confirmed by Amateur Boxing Association of the Philippines (ABAP) executive director Ed Picson, who posted on his Twitter account that Naiza Petecio (48kg, 15-16 years old) and Winnie Cline Varano (51kg, 17 to 18 years old) have already secured their visas. The PHL boxers will leave Maundy Thursday in time for the tournament. Petecio and Varano are part of the 264 boxers worldwide, who registered for the tournament. ABAP is hopeful the two boxers will perform well in the tournament where they face pugs from powerhouse nations like Kazakhstan, Russia and Turkey. According to the AIBA website, the three countries will have a full contingent in the tournament with 13 weight categories in the junior and 10 weight divisions in the youth. India has eight boxers, including the youngest fighter in the tournament at 14. - Reuben Terrado, RCJ, GMA News
