Report: Pinay sues Syrian man for sexual harassment

A restaurant supervisor in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) was brought to court over a threatening “joke" on a Filipina co-worker earlier this year. The supervisor was accused of threatening to kill the female co-worker if she did not have sex with him, the news site Khaleej Times reported on Wednesday. “He said that he did it before to another Filipina woman in the International City. He claimed that he was not scared if I complained against him," the report quoted the Filipina as saying. When he appeared in the Court of First Instance on Tuesday, the 28-year-old Syrian man was charged of threatening the complainant, a 22-year-old Filipina accountant, who had been working in the restaurant since April last year. She said the defendant worked there and kept on proposing a marriage to her but she turned him down. Eventually, she reported him to their superior who later scolded the Syrian man. The accused also sent her an e-mail proposing a marriage to her once again, prompting her to report him to their superior for another time. The defendant later threatened to kill her if she did not have sex with him, she alleged. A Syrian waiter confirmed that he saw the defendant threatening the woman by placing a nail in front of her eyes. “It was during a verbal brawl between them in which he claimed to be a dangerous man," the waiter told the prosecutor. While the defendant laughed later saying it was a joke, the woman filed a police complaint on March 6. — JE/VVP, GMA News
