Woman jumps off docked ferry in Batangas

A woman jumped off a ferry by the docks at the Port of Batangas on Wednesday. Marivic Bohion Rodrigo, 41, jumped off the M/V Reyna Genoveva at 8:10 p.m. Her husband, Roy Eulin Rodrigo, 34, then jumped into the sea after her.
An investigation by the local Coast Guard showed that threats — though unspecified by the authorities — prompted Marivic to jump off the ferry, Seaman2 Leovino Panganiban of the Batangas Coast Guard told GMA News Online.. The Coast Guard did not pursue its investigation deeper on the premise that it was more of a quarrel between husband and wife. The crew of a ship docked beside the Reyna Genoveva threw out a “life ring" to help the couple, said Panganiban. The Rodrigos were immediately brought to the ATI clinic in the port’s Terminal 2. They were uninjured. The couple who hails from Occidental Mindoro were good swimmers, according to Panganiban. After they were reported to be "in good physical condition," the couple was immediately released by the Coast Guard. The couple was then turned by the Coast Guard over to the Philippine Ports Authority. — VS, GMA News
