Report: MPD bomb squads secure churches for Visita Iglesia

Bomb squads of the Manila Police District (MPD) will remain on alert during the Holy Week, keeping watch particularly over churches to be visited by Catholics for the "Visita Iglesia." The Visita Iglesia is a tradition among Catholics to visit different churches after the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday. Among the major churches expected to be visited by a large number of people are the historic Manila Cathedral and Quiapo Church, as well as churches in Sta. Cruz, Binondo and Malate, all in Manila. According to a report of dzXL radio, the bomb squads are coordinating with patrol teams to ensure churchgoers' safety. Meanwhile, the MPD will also keep tabs on vital installations such as the oil depot in the city's Pandacan district. It will also keep watch over populated areas such as Luneta and the Baywalk area. - VVP, GMA News
