Phivolcs: Magnitude-4.1 quake hits Davao Oriental


A predawn magnitude-4.1 quake rocked Davao Oriental province in Mindanao on Holy Thursday, but there was no initial report of casualty or damage. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the quake was recorded at 3:53 a.m., and was tectonic in origin. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake's epicenter was 251 kilometers (km) southeast of Mati, Davao Oriental. However, Phivolcs did not immediately cite specific areas where the quake was felt. Phivolcs said no aftershock was expected from the predawn quake. Four quakes rock Mindoro Meanwhile, at least four quakes rocked the Mindoro area in Southern Luzon from Wednesday afternoon to Wednesday night. The first measured magnitude 3.3 and was recorded at 2:17 p.m., with the epicenter at 94 km southeast of Mamburao. A second measuring magnitude 2.7 was recorded at 4:03 p.m., with the epicenter at 28 km southwest of Sablayan, Occidental Mindoro. The third measured magnitude 3 and was recorded at 9:48 p.m., with the epicenter at 91 km southeast of Mamburao. A fourth measuring magnitude 1.7 was recorded at 9:52 p.m., with the epicenter at 73 km southeast of Mamburao. - VVP, GMA News
