'Visita Iglesia' online site breaks 2010 record with 58K visitors

The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines' (CBCP) "Visita Iglesia" online site has broken the record of the number of visitors which now stands at over 58,000. As of 7:00 a.m. on Holy Thursday, the site had at least 58,337 visitors. Last year's "Visita Iglesia" site had attracted 47,473 visitors. This year's visits appeared to peak late on Holy Wednesday, when the figure jumped from 40,187 as of 6:35 a.m. to more than 50,000 as of 10:00 p.m. on that day. On Holy Monday, the site had only 21,219 visitors. Traffic to the site is expected to climb further during the so-called "Easter Triduum" (also known as Paschal Triduum), the period from Holy Thursday to Easter Sunday. The Easter Triduum begins with the Mass of the Lord's Supper on Holy Thursday. It remembers the passion and death of Jesus Christ on Good Friday and His resurrection on Easter Sunday. The CBCP launched this year's "Visita Iglesia" site on April 1 for Filipinos overseas who could not make the Catholic tradition of visiting different churches on Holy Thursday. The site is also for Catholics who cannot physically make the traditional church visit. The site, "version 2" of the previous Visita Iglesia site, features many improvements, including a YouTube introduction, and catecheses on Lent, the Holy Week, and Easter. - VVP, GMA News
