NDRRMC: 8 hurt, 700 families homeless in Parañaque fire

At least eight people were injured while 700 families lost their homes in the fire that hit a residential area in Parañaque City Wednesday night. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Thursday the fire started at the shanty of one Arlee Falco at 6:26 p.m. "Eight fire victims sustained minor injuries were reported. Estimated damages [have] yet to be determined and the cause of fire was unattended cooking (kerosene gas). [The number] of houses affected were 500 shanties more or less and 700 families more or less were reported affected," it said.

The fire at Fourth Estate at Honteveros Compound in San Antonio village was declared out at 9:06 p.m. Also, the NDRRMC said the victims were brought to the local gymnasium of 4th Estate, which was converted into a temporary evacuation center. On Thursday, a report on GMA News's Balitanghali said the residents spent Holy Thursday trying to salvage what was left of their homes. Many of the residents, however, received help from charitable organizations. - KBK, GMA News
