NDRRMC: 8 devotees rescued from C'Oro flash flood


At least eight devotees joining a religious event were rescued after flash floods caused by heavy rains swept them away in Cagayan de Oro City Thursday night. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday afternoon the incident occurred at 8 p.m. Thursday at Umalag River in Tablon village. "(On or about 8 p.m. Thursday), a flash flood incident occurred in Umalag River, Barangay Tablon, Cagayan de Oro City due to continuous heavy rains at the Bukidnon area. Eight people among the undetermined number of devotees attending religious activities were swept by strong current," the NDRRMC said in its 3 p.m. report. While it did not give details on the religious event, the NDRRMC identified the rescued devotees as:

    * Charmaigne Pabatao * Melvin Boquiquino * April Tumbong * Christina Mae Cobillo * Mark Lloyd Alboria * Matt Edoprot * Sweet Arian Calayca * Pedro
Pabatao, Boquiquino and Tumbong were brought to the Northern Mindanao Medical Center and were declared out of danger. Floods hit Davao Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said several motorists were stranded in Davao City Thursday night after flash floods hit major roads and low-lying areas there. It said the floods occurred between 5 and 6:30 p.m. "Vehicles travelling in the city particularly in the down town areas were stranded. As of this reporting time, flood water started to subside," it said. Meanwhile, in Northern Luzon, 100 passengers were reported stranded due to unfavorable sea conditions in the area. The NDRRMC said the number included 60 pssengers from Aparri (Cagayan) bound for Camiguin/Calayan Island; and 40 from San Vicente bound for Maconacon, Isabela. — LBG, GMA News
