Report: 2 mountain climbers rescued from Zambo park

At least two mountain climbers were rescued from Pulong Bato in Zamboanga Peninsula last Thursday, a Mindanao news site reported on Saturday. Police and Philippine Red Cross-Zamboanga volunteers rescued Windel Patagoc, 25; and Gunner Berma, according to a report on MindaNews. Zamboanga City Police Station 7 head Chief Inspector Felixberto Martinez said the two were rescued around 5 p.m. Thursday. Martinez said the two climbed Pulong Bato around 11 a.m. even if they did not have the proper equipment. He said the two had problems going down from Pulong Bato “as the mountain was slippery due to sudden rainfall." The two suffered abrasions and were taken to a nearby hospital after their rescue, he added. Patagoc and Berma were among the Catholics who flock to the Mayor Cesar C. Climaco Freedom Park for a traditional vigil and Way of the Cross Prayers on Maundy Thursday. The Climaco Freedom Park, also known as the Abong-Abong Park, is an annual pilgrimage site. — LBG, GMA News
