Cops brace for return of Holy Week vacationers

After three days of relative quiet, Metro Manila police were back on alert Sunday for the return of Filipinos who spent their Holy Week vacation in the provinces. National Capital Region (NCR) police chief Director Nicanor Bartolome ordered added personnel in bus terminals, seaports and airports, radio dzBB reported Sunday. Bartolome also ordered added patrols at tourist spots and shopping malls in the metropolis as business goes back to normal there. He also said the past Holy Week had been relatively peaceful, with no major incidents recorded. Meanwhile, the South Luzon Expressway advised motorists to have exact toll change ready to prevent traffic from piling up at the SLEX toll booths. SLEX spokeswoman Alma Tuazon said they expect some 200,000 motorists to pass through the SLEX Sunday and Monday – a large increase from the daily average of 180,000 vehicles a day. — LBG, GMA News
