Phivolcs: 3 quakes hit Mindanao, Luzon


At least three quakes rocked different parts of Mindanao and Luzon on Easter Sunday, but state seismologists said no damage or aftershock was expected. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the first quake was recorded at 4:38 a.m. in the Surigao del Sur area in Mindanao. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the epicenter was 58 km southeast of Tandag, Surigao del Sur. A second quake measuring magnitude 2.4 was recorded at 5:42 a.m. in the Batangas area in Southern Luzon. Phivolcs said the epicenter was traced to 43 km southwest of Batangas City. The third quake measuring magnitude 3.5 was recorded at 9:33 a.m. at the Ilocos area in Northern Luzon. Phivolcs said the epicenter was 60 km northeast of Laoag City. Phivolcs did not cite specific areas where the three quakes were felt. It said no aftershocks were expected. - KBK, GMA News
