Pinay golfers make quarterfinals of NZ Women's Championship

The Philippines’ Chihiro Ikeda, Jayvie Agojo and Lovelyn Guioguio survived the challenge of the local bets to advance to the quarterfinal phase of match play in the 2011 Lion Foundation NZ Women’s Amateur Championship at the Russley Golf Club in Christchurch, New Zealand. Ikeda won over New Zealand’s Grace Senior, 7- 6, while Agojo and Guioguio were 1-up winners over Hanna Seifert and Emily Eng, respectively, in the first round. Sarah Jane Ababa, the fourth member of Phl-ICTSI squad, lost her duel with Laura Hoskin, 1-down. In the afternoon matches, Ikeda continued her streak with a 3-2 victory against Kate Chadwick. Agojo flushed out Jaime Mclvor, 5-3, and Guioguio topped Saini Skudder, 5-4. National coach Bong Lopez, who is with the team, is hoping that his three wards will enter the semis to, at least, assure one Filipina in the finals showdown. “Ikeda and Guioguio are bracketed and one will have to go if they book a semis seat. Agojo is the alone in the other bracket," Lopez said. - RCJ, Adrian Flores, GMA News
