DOE: Details of fuel subsidy cards distribution finished

The Department of Energy (DOE) has already furnished the details of its fuel subsidy program for public utility vehicles. In a report by GMA News' Tina Panganiban Perez on Unang Balita, Energy Secretary Jose Rene Almendras said the department will be giving away fuel subsidy cards starting May 2 to jeepney and tricycle drivers.

For a month, card holders will get a P1,050 fuel discount for jeepneys and P150 for tricycles. The cards will be given in the distribution centers at Camp Crame, Fort Bonifacio and Quirino Grandstand. Applicants for the program should bring the following:

  • Official receipt / Certificate of registration of the vehicle
  • Franchise of the vehicle
  • Valid IDs
Almendras also reminded the would-be card holders not to dispose of the cards after the one-month period as President Benigno Aquino III might still extend the program. Meanwhile, Almendras defended the recent oil price hikes in the country. "Ang pagtaas po ng presyo ng langis ay hindi nagagawa ng oil companies kundi dahil po sa pandaigdigang sitwasyon," Almendras said. However, Almendras said the DOE will be investigating the oil price increases since 2007 by comparing the oil prices in the world market and the price hikes by the oil companies. On Tuesday, three oil companies rolled back their prices after Almendras said on Monday that some companies increase prices greater than what the government calculated. — Karlitos Brian Decena/LBG/RSJ, GMA News
