Local IT firm prepares telcos for IPv6 'test flight'

With IPv4 addresses all used up, a local tech company is busy laying the migration path to IPv6 for telco operators in the country to ensure a smooth transition to the new Internet address system. As the IPv4 can no longer handle the demand for new IP addresses, IPv6 is designed to provide enough IP addresses to allow the Internet to expand. However, there are compatibility issues with regard to switching from IPv4 to IPv6. On June 8, 2011, Google, Facebook, Yahoo, and Akamai, and a number of more companies across the world will offer content over IPv6 for a 24-hour “test flight." This is to motivate ISPs, hardware makers, software makers, and Web companies to prepare their services for IPv6. The “World IPv6 Day" will also see telcos worldwide participate for the test migration to IPv6. Imaginet International, a systems integrator and managed network, hosting and content security provider in the Philippines, is taking part in this exercise as it conducts IPv6 trial tests for the five major telcos in the country. Three of Imaginet’s engineers — Genesis Tiglas, Joanna Marie Ramos, and John Tugade – have begun preparing the BlueCat Proteus IP Address Management (IPAM) and the Adonis DHCP/DNS servers for the upcoming transition to IPv6. The BlueCat Proteus IPAM is an IP address management platform that consolidates the management of the entire IP infrastructure which includes DNS and DHCP services, while the Adonis DNS/DHCP appliances ensure services are secure, configured correctly, and highly available. “Imaginet has been spearheading IPv6 transition efforts to ensure that ISPs and other Telco’s are ready by June 8 with little or no disruptions to their business operations and end-user services. With Asia being one of the strongest adopters of IPv6, we are working closely with our partner, BlueCat Networks in the Philippines to create a smooth and easy transition for all our clients who are affected by this change," said Blair Duncan, CEO of Imaginet. — Newsbytes.ph
