Tremors disrupt Pag-IBIG operations in Makati City

The operations of the Home Development Mutual Fund (Pag-IBIG) in Makati City were disrupted on Thursday due to tremors in the building where its office is located even though no earthquake was recorded in the area. Pag-IBIG general counsel Robert John Cosico said they were forced to vacate the Atrium Building temporarily and set up transactions at the nearby Justine Building. "May pagyanig sa building simula kahapon. Eight floors ang Atrium sa Makati, panaka-naka ang pagyanig sa building. Wala kaming alam na lindol," Cosico said in an interview on dzBB radio. He said Pag-IBIG has requested the Makati City Hall to send a team of engineers to the area to check on the building. He said Pag-IBIG management had ordered that employees not report to the building on Friday. He said they will wait for the findings of the city engineer's team. "Safety ang ating primary concern pati sa kliyente ng Pag-IBIG. Minarapat ng management na i-vacate ang building at mabigyan daan ang pag-inspect," he said. In the meantime, he said transactions can be held at the nearby Justine Building. He asked the public for understanding for the temporary arrangement. "Humihingi kami ng kaunting pagunawa," he said. For his part, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology science research specialist Romeo Tabanlar said there was no quake in the area around the building recently. "Base sa instrument namin wala talaga," he said. - VVP, GMA News
