Police: 3 killed as truck falls on tricycle in Negros Occidental

Three women, one of them pregnant, were killed in a freak accident Thursday when a truck loaded with sugarcane crushed their tricycle in Sagay City in Negros Occidental. Sagay City police chief Senior Inspector Gabriel Gutierrez said the truck crashed into the parked tricycle on a portion of the highway in the city. "Naka-park ang tricycle sa gilid ng highway. Timing naman, natumba ang truck. (Napatay) ang tatlong pasahero na babae, isa ang pregnant (The tricycle was parked at the side of the highway when the truck crashed into it. The three passengers in the tricycle were killed instantly)," Gutierrez said in an interview on dzBB radio. He initially identified the three fatalities as Rosita Alog, Bengbeng Alolor, and Endang Elalim, all passengers of the tricycle. Gutierrez also said the drivers of the truck and tricycle, who were unharmed, were taken into custody. He did not immediately name them. An initial investigation showed the truck went out of control and crashed into the tricycle while avoiding hitting a vehicle coming from the opposite direction. Gutierrez said the tricycle driver managed to run away before the truck hit his vehicle. "May kasalubong siyang isang sasakyan (The truck driver tried to avoid hitting a vehicle coming from the opposite direction)," he said. — LBG, GMA News
