'QILF' and 'PILF' trend at height of royal wedding

People around the world expressed their admiration for the newly wed royal couple, with the result being that all trending topics were directly related to the royal wedding —with two notably tell-tale, but hilariously confusing entries. At the height of the royal wedding Friday, it came as no surprise that all of the trending topics on Twitter were directly related to the royal couple. As of 7pm (Philippine time), the trending topics were:

  • #RoyalWedding
  • #rw11
  • proudtobebritish
  • William & Kate
  • QILF
  • Westminster Abbey
  • Sarah Burton
  • Grace Kelly
  • PILF
  • Anglican
Among all the entries, two stand out: 'PILF' and 'QILF' —both direct references to how some observers felt about the attractiveness of the royals in question. Both terms are derivatives of the pop cultural reference 'MILF', a tongue-in-cheek term for a sexually attractive mother. Except that, in the case of PILF and QILF, it wasn't quite clear who was being talked about: "why are people saying that kate will be the first #QILF, have people not seen the Queen we have now! #wouldntsayno," said @LawrenceP68. "QILF? Shes Not The Queen Yet.. So it Should Be PILF... :) (I'd Rather Not.. I'm Just Proving a Point)," said @SarahNevilleRih. "Forgive me @Queen_UK, but PILF is Princess right? Not Prince. Although they do look smashing. #rw11," added @pwest13. "Kate middleton is a #pilf and someday will be a #milf and a #qilf," noted @jimmycrowe1. "I hope the trending QILF refers to the future queen. Or the queen in the past? Maybe it's just b/c she has such an impressive handbag," said @waxjism. "To those saying Kate Middleton is the first QILF, 2 things: 1. She won't be Queen until she's 60+ and 2. Queen Rania of Jordan," enjoined @hal9000_. The confusion about whether 'PILF' refers to the prince or the princess led to a fair amount of confusion on the social networking site. It also didn't help that some people were using 'QILF' to refer to Kate Middleton, despite the fact that she has yet to ascend to the throne — it's been occupied for the past five decades by Queen Elizabeth II, now 85 years old. — GMA News
