Pacquiao training too hard for Mosley - Roach

HOLLYWOOD – Freddie Roach is in a quandary at the moment. How can you tell a fighting machine like Manny Pacquiao to slow down with his training? Roach is trying but knows the tough task ahead of him. "The main job now is trying to slow him down," said the four-time Trainer of the Year moments after going through a grueling 12-round mitts workout with the 'Pacman' at the Wild Card gym on Friday (Saturday in Manila). "I have to slow him down, somewhat, but not as much as I would like to." Signs of Pacquiao slowing down was hardly noticeable Fridayas he repeatedly battered his 10-year trainer in a heated exchange at center ring to the delight of a big crowd that included TV-movie actor Mario Lopez and Laguna congressman Dan Fernandez and actress-wife Shiela Ysrael. For several times, Roach tried to rough up Pacquiao and at one point the teacher even connected a left-right combination to the face of the world's top pound-for-pound fighter that drew a wild round of applause from their highly-appreciative audience. By the time the two were through with the mitts, Pacquiao was still all revved up to go for another round. "Are you tired?" Pacquaio hollered at Roach at the other end of the ring. "No," Roach replied. But despite those aching body and muscles, Roach nonetheless is satisfied enough of how training camp – now on its last few days - had turned out. "We had a good workout the past two days. And we have fun today," said Roach, while getting a round of massage from former boxer and one of Pacquiao's right hand man Jovie Jalog. Pacquiao is expected to spar for six rounds on Saturday before formally closing his training camp with four more rounds on Monday. Team Pacquiao leaves for Las Vegas late Monday afternoon. Although feeling tired, Pacquiao still found time to attend a Nike event held at the Staples Center early in the evening. - JVP, GMA News
