Labor day protesters snarl traffic in Manila

Traffic in parts of Manila was snarled Sunday morning as members of militant groups assembled in key areas for their Labor Day protests. Parts of España Avenue in Manila and Quezon Avenue in Quezon City were clogged with vehicles carrying the protesters, radio dzBB reported. Militant labor groups were scheduled to hold rallies at the Mabuhay Rotonda at the boundary of Manila and Quezon City, while others were to assemble in Manila. They began to mass up at the Mabuhay Rotonda as early as 6 a.m. They were to assemble at Trabajo Market, Blumentritt, and Paco area, then proceed to Liwasang Bonifacio for their program. Earlier, militant umbrella group Bagong Alyansang Makabayan said resistance is now the only way out for the crisis they now face. It also hinted Sunday's Labor Day protests will just be the start of more protests leading to the Aquino administration's first anniversary on June 30, because the new administration has miserably failed to protect the workers. — LBG, GMA News
