DFA chief, Yemen exec discuss safety concerns of Pinoys


Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Albert del Rosario has met with his Yemeni counterpart, Dr. Abu Bakr Qirbi, to discuss the safety concerns of Filipinos in the strife-torn country. "(Del) Rosario visited Yemen for the second time to assess the developments in said country and to get updates on the condition of the Filipinos there," the DFA said in a news release posted on Sunday. Qirbi assured del Rosario that the Yemeni government is committed to protect and ensure the safety of Filipinos in Yemen. There are some 1,400 Filipinos in Yemen, the DFA said. Philippine Embassy in Riyadh Chargé d'Affaires Ezzedin Tago accompanied Del Rosario in meeting the Yemeni foreign minister. During his visit, Del Rosario also swore into office Mohammad Al-Jamal as the first Philippine Honorary Consul in Yemen. Al-Jamal was tasked to oversee and safeguard the interest of the Philippines there, under the supervision of the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh. - VVP, GMA News
