Visayas reporter mugged by motorcycle-riding robbers

A reporter of a Western Visayas newspaper was hurt after two motorcycle-riding men mugged him and stole from him in Bacolod City over the weekend. The Visayan Daily Star reported that Adrian Nemes III sustained minor injuries when he was robbed at Sum-ag village in Bacolod City at 1:45 a.m. on Sunday. According to the report, Nemes was walking toward his home at Friendsville Subdivision when he saw the suspects on board their parked motorcycle. Sensing something was wrong, Nemes tried to evade the men but one of the men alighted from the motorcycle, asked him for directions and suddenly grabbed him by the neck. Nemes said he fought back and grappled with the suspects until they fell to the ground. The victim said the suspect who mugged him then took his wallet with P2,700 cash, automated teller machine (ATM) card and identification cards, then got on the motorcycle. Case investigator Police Officer 3 Ariel Sevilla said the suspects may have also been the ones who tried to rob a woman near the Sacred Heart Memorial Chapels but failed as she managed to shout for help. Nemes said the area where the mugging took place was not well-lighted and police personnel seldom conduct patrols there. Bacolod police chief Senior Superintendent Ricardo de la Paz ordered a thorough investigation on the case since robbery and snatching incidents in the area. - VVP, GMA News
