Magiging OIC ng Ombudsman na si Casimiro, pinagbibitiw din

MANILA – Dapat din umanong magbitiw si Deputy Ombudsman Orlando Casimiro, na pansamantalang papalit sa puwesto ni Ma. Merceditas Gutierrez bilang pinuno ng Office of the Ombudsman. Uupong officer-in-charge ng Ombudsman si Casimiro kapag naging epektibo na ang biglaang magbitiw sa kanyang puwesto si Gutierrez simula sa Mayo 6, tatlong araw bago magbukas ang sesyon ng Kongreso. Sa Mayo 9 nakatakdang simulan ng Senado bilang impeachment court ang proseso sa articles of impeachment na isinampa ng Kamara de Representantes laban kay Gutierrez. Ngunit ayon kay Iloilo Rep. Niel Tupas Jr., chairman ng House committee on justice at nanguna sa pagpapatalsik kay Gutierrez, dapat magbitiw din sa kanyang puwesto si Casimiro dahil kasangkot ito sa mga kasong ibinintang sa dating lider ng Ombudsman. “He should also resign as he is involved in the cases included in the articles of impeachment. The Office of the Ombudsman cannot completely regain the trust of the people until senior officials closely associated with the Ombudsman also resign," pahayag ni Tupas. Inakusahan naman ni Bayan Muna partylist Rep. Neri Colmenares, sumuporta sa impeachment case, na nagsagawa umano ng mga “midnight appointments" si Gutierrez. “Ombudsman Gutierrez made numerous midnight appointments before resigning, filling up the entire bureaucracy with her appointees. Is this to ensure that she and the ones she protected would still be safe from prosecution even if a new Ombudsman is appointed?" ayon sa militanteng kongresista. Hiniling ni Colmenares ang pagbibitiw ng mga itinaas sa puwesto ni Gutierrez na sina Assistant Ombudsman Aleu A. Amante of the Preliminary Investigation, Administrative Adjudication and Monitoring Office (PAMO 1); Assistant Ombudsman Marilou B. Ancheta-Mejica (PAMO 2); Assistant Ombudsman Maribeth T. Padios of the Office of Legal Affairs (OLA); Assistant Ombudsman Elvira Chua of the Prosecution and Monitoring Bureau (PBM); Assistant Ombudsman Caezar Asuncion of the Field Investigation Office (FIO); at Assistant Ombudsman Rolando Zoleta ng OMB Luzon. 'Di sasali sa pagpili ng bagong Ombudsman Idineklara naman ni Tupas, na hindi siya sasasali sa propeso ng pagpili ng bagong Ombudsman na sasalain ng Judicial Bar Council (JBC), kunsaan siya miyembro. “I don’t have any candidate. I’m thinking of inhibiting myself from the voting since it seems that I was the face of the impeachment but I would participate in the process," paliwanag niya. Wala pa umanong isinusumiteng mga pangalan ng mga aplikante sa puwesto ni Gutierrez dahil hindi pa ito opisyal na nababakante. Ilan sa pangalan na lumulutang bilang kandidato sa pagiging lider ng Ombudsman ay sina human rights lawyer Jose (Manuel) Diokno, at dating Agriculture Secretary Rene Villa, at dating Bureau Internal Revenue Commissioner Liwayway Vinzons-Chato Wala naman daw natatanggap na impormasyon si Tupas na interesado sa puwesto ni Gutierrez si dating Senator Wigberto “Bobby" Tanada. “We have not discussed names. The names will come out after the publication of vacancy. But I’ve been hearing the names of human rights lawyer Jose (Manuel) Diokno, (former Agriculture Secretary) Rene Villa," ani Tupas. “But (there is) no definite endorsement from the LP (Liberal Party). We cannot forward any names to the president (at this point)," dagdag pa niya. - GMA News
