Free viewing of Pacquiao-Mosley fight to highlight Makati anniversary

A free viewing of the upcoming bout of boxing icon Manny Pacquiao against Sugar Shane Mosley this Sunday will be one of the highlights of Makati City's 341st anniversary celebration. The city government said the free viewing — as well as the annual Flores de Mayo procession on Friday — will kick off the month-long celebration of the city’s 341st Foundation Day on June 1. In a news release posted on its web portal, the city said the showing will be held at the Makati Coliseum on Sunday. At Friday's Flores de Mayo, Makati Mayor Jejomar Erwin Binay Jr. and his mother, former mayor Elenita Binay, will grace the rites for the Mayflower Queen and Mayflower princesses at the city hall quadrangle before the start of the procession at 4 p.m. Representing the Office of the Mayor at the procession is Alexi Lacia Binay, the mayor's eldest daughter, to be escorted by Baby James Aquino-Yap, according to the Museum and Cultural Affairs Office (MCAO). This year's Mayflower Queen of Makati is top model Isabelle Diaz-Daza, who will be escorted by model Borgy Marcos Manotoc. The Mayflower Queen’s court will include models Georgina Wilson, Ava Smeralda Diaz and Nicole Saburit Anderson. "Beautiful sagalas dressed in traditional Filipino costumes will be representing the city’s barangays, city hall offices, and the business sector, including Dusit Thani Hotel, Shangrila Hotel, Intercontinental, Mandarin, Peninsula, SM-Makati, Makati Tourism Foundation, Rockwell Land Corp., Makati Cinema Square, and AMA-Makati," it said. The Mayflower procession will start at 4 p.m. from the City Hall Quadrangle going towards Greenbelt via J.P. Rizal Street, Reposo, Buendia, Makati Avenue, and will end at the Sto. Niño Chapel at Greenbelt 3, where all the participants will gather to offer their bouquets to the Blessed Virgin Mother. After the procession, Ayala Land will host a dinner for the Mayflower and her court, officials and other guests. On Sunday, the city will open Makati Coliseum to the public for a free viewing of the live telecast of the fight between Pacquiao and Mosley. — KBK, GMA News
