Oil firms raise pump prices anew

Several local oil firms have again raised their pump prices, but this time, diesel was spared. Most public transport vehicles in the country use diesel as fuel. Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp., Chevron Philippines Inc., Petron Corp., Eastern Petroleum Corp., and Total Philippines Corp. implemented, effective May 3, a P1 per liter increase in regular gasoline prices. Unleaded gasoline was raised by P1.40 per liter, and kerosene by P0.30 per liter. The latest price increase is due to the continuing rise in the cost of crude oil in the world market. Gasoline was sold between P55 to P61 per liter before Tuesday’s price hike. Meanwhile, the Department of Energy (DOE) has started distributing the Pantawid Pasada fuel subsidy cards under its Public Transport Assistance Program. http://www.gmanews.tv/story/219367/energy-dept-hands-out-3000-fuel-subsidy-cards The DOE coordinated closely with major transport sector groups for the orderly distribution of the smart cards. The distribution is being carried out in batches and according to franchise routes. The beneficiaries can start using the smart card four days after receiving it. — ELR/VS, GMA News
