1000 stranded as passenger ship runs aground off Manila


At least 1,000 passengers remained stranded early Wednesday after their passenger vessel ran aground off Manila as it tried to head back to port due to big waves Tuesday night. Due to low tide, the MV Mary the Queen ran aground as it maneuvered back to port, tide, radio dzBB's Roland Bola reported. While two tugboats proceeded to the area to tow the passenger ship, the Coast Guard said rescuers may have to wait until the high tide comes in. Initial reports reaching the Philippine Coast Guard in Manila showed the vessel left Manila for Romblon Tuesday night but tried to return but it got struck in shallow water about two km off Pier 8. The Coast Guard said the ship, owned by Romblon Shipping Lines, was heading for Romblon and Masbate.— LBG, GMA News
