Aquino to pay respects to slain Samar mayor, Cebu vice gov

Before leaving for Indonesia on Friday, President Benigno Simeon Aquino III will pay his respects to slain Calbayog (Samar) Mayor Reynaldo Uy and Cebu Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez Jr, a report of radio dzBB said. A report on radio dzBB's Cebu affiliate Wednesday said a team from the Presidential Security Group (PSG) went to Cebu on Tuesday to inform Sanchez's kin about the planned visit. The report also quoted officials of the Presidential Management Staff as saying Aquino will go to Samar to pay his respects to slain Calbayog City Mayor Reynaldo Uy, before going to Cebu. Uy was shot dead on Saturday while attending a fiesta in Hinabangan town in Samar. The police have offered a P200,000 reward for information on his killers. On the other hand, Sanchez succumbed to Stage 4 lung cancer before dawn on Friday last week. - VVP, GMA News
