DILG offers P1-M bounty for arrest of Calbayog mayor's killer

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) will be giving a P1-million reward for the arrest of the killer of Calbayog City Mayor Reynaldo Uy, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday. A statement released by the PNP Regional Police Community Relations Division (RPCRD) said Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo had the DILG will be offering a P200,000 reward for the identity of Uy's killer and a P1-million reward for the arrest of the same. Uy was shot while attending a town fiesta in Hinabangan, Samar last April 30 around 9:30 p.m. He died while undergoing treatment at the St. Paul's Hospital in Tacloban City the next day. The RPCRD said that Robredo condemned Uy's killing and ordered the PNP to conduct a speedy investigation and immediately identify the perpetrator. In the same statement, Police Regional head Chief Superintendent Arnold Rayala Revilla said the PNP has already activated a special task force called "SITG UY" to spearhead the investigation. He noted, however, that the PNP still needs the support of the community for any information on Uy's killer. Earlier, President Benigno Aquino III said that Uy's murder may be politically motivated since there will be a recall election in the province. Uy was a member of Aquino’s Liberal Party. Meanwhile, the RPCRD said that all PNP commanders have been advised to review their policy guidelines in providing security for government officials and high-risk private individuals. - Kimberly Jane Tan/RSJ, GMA News
