3 early quakes rock north Luzon, Mindanao


At least three quakes rocked Northern Luzon and Mindanao early Thursday, but there was no initial report of damage or casualty. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the most powerful of the three quakes was recorded at 6:34 a.m., measuring magnitude 3.7. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the quake's epicenter was 96 km southeast of General Santos City in Mindanao. Earlier, at least two predawn quakes were recorded, with the first at magnitude 3.0 and occurring at 1:19 a.m. near Nueva Vizcaya in Northern Luzon. Phivolcs said the epicenter was 17 km southwest of Bayombong. The other predawn quake was recorded at 2 a.m., with the epicenter at 96 km northwest of Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte in Mindanao. The quake measured magnitude 2.7, Phivolcs said. Wednesday night quakes Meanwhile, Phivolcs also recorded at least two quakes in Zambales and Mindoro late Wednesday night. It said a magnitude-2.2 quake in Zambales was recorded at 9:59 p.m., with the epicenter at 25 km northeast of Iba town. A magnitude-2.2 quake was recorded at 10:19 p.m. in Mindoro, with the epicenter at 23 km northeast of Looc, Lubang in Mindoro. — LBG, GMA News
