JV Ejercito twits Mikey Arroyo on Twitter for tax evasion

San Juan City Rep. Joseph Victor Ejercito on Thursday accused Ang Galing Pinoy Rep. Mikey Arroyo of tax evasion over popular social networking site Twitter. Responding to a tweet by GMA News saying that Arroyo is prepared to face preliminary investigations on his tax evasion case because he "has nothing to hide," Ejercito said: "Nothing to hide? Probably because he didn't file his taxes." Arroyo, eldest son of former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, had earlier denied allegations of tax evasion lodged against him, saying that his conscience was clear because he had paid his taxes, and called the Bureau on Internal Revenue's (BIR) move a form of "political harassment." The BIR has required Arroyo and his wife to pay their aggregate tax liabilities, accumulated from 2004 to 2009, ammounting to P73.85 million. His younger brother, Camarines Sur Rep. Diosdado "Dato" Arroyo, could also be facing tax evasion raps following a request by the BIR to look into his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth. The BIR, however, has yet to file a case against the younger Arroyo, saying the request "doesn't mean it will progress into a full-blown investigation." Malacañang, meanwhile, had earlier denied allegations that it is singling out former President Arroyo's allies, saying it didn't have a hand in BIR's decisions. Ejercito, former mayor of San Juan City, is the son of deposed president Joseph Estrada, who was ousted in 2001 by a people power revolt that gave former president Arroyo, Mikey and Dato's mother, the presidency by way of constitutional succession. — TJD, GMA News
