Police: No specific terror threat in Metro Manila yet

There is no specific threat yet of any retaliatory or sympathy attack by allies of terror network al Qaeda nearly a week after the killing of leader Osama bin Laden, at least in Metro Manila. But National Capital Region (NCR) police director Chief Superintendent Allan Purisima on Saturday said he still wants his men prepared for any eventuality. "So far walang specific report na nagsasabing nagbibigay ng threat sa atin pero tinitingnan natin kahandaan ng pulis natin (So far there has been no specific report indicating an attack on Metro Manila. But I still want to see my men ready for anything)," Purisima said in an interview on dzBB radio early Saturday. Purisima had conducted a surprise inspection Friday of vital installations in Metro Manila, including the United States Embassy and the Pier area. He said he expects his men to know what to do in any eventuality. "Ina-identify natin ang dapat nilang gawin (We want them to know what they should do if something arises)," he said. Al Qaeda, which confirmed the death of bin Laden, had vowed revenge on the United States and its allies, including Pakistan. Bin Laden's al Qaeda group was linked to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States in 2001 that killed over 3,000 people in New York. — LBG, GMA News
