Gov.ph portal offline from unexplained 'hardware issues'

On Saturday, one of the Philippine government’s primary online portals suddenly went offline, with Malacañang blaming “hardware issues" for the downtime. When the Official Gazette (www.gov.ph) went down on Saturday morning, the site's admins issued an apology and brief explanation at noon via the @govph Twitter account. “(The www.gov.ph site) is encountering hardware issues in its data center. We will be back online shortly," it said. No further explanation of the malfunction was given, nor a time frame for when the site would be back online. As of posting time at 6pm, attempts to log into the site would result in a timeout error. Originally set up during the Arroyo administration as a government information portal, www.gov.ph was turned into an online version of the Official Gazette, the government's repository of official documents. The site has also hosted press releases from various government agencies. — TJD, GMA News
