Not in yellow shirts, some Pinoys show support for Pacquiao just the same

They were not wearing yellow shirts as their idol requested, but some Filipinos in less affluent areas of Metro Manila still managed to show their unity and support on Sunday for boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao in his bout against Sugar Shane Mosley.

In Manila's downtown area, many Filipinos braved Sunday's rains and gathered near appliance stores to watch the televised coverage of the bout in Las Vegas. Many of those who watched the televised bout Sunday noon in Manila either brought umbrellas or raised the backs of their shirts to protect themselves from the rain. They cheered every time Pacquiao appeared to land a blow on Mosley. Some sidewalk vendors turned on their radios airing the blow-by-blow coverage of the bout at full volume for the benefit of bystanders and passersby. Even commuters taking some public utility jeeps and buses were updated as the drivers tuned in to the radio or television coverage of the fight. During the weekend, Pacquiao had requested Filipinos to wear yellow as a sign of unity. The boxing champ himself wore yellow gloves in his bout with Mosley. — LBG, GMA News
