500 people affected by tornado in Calumpit, Bulacan

MALOLOS CITY— Some 500 people were affected after a tornado hit Calumpit, Bulacan on Saturday night. No one was hurt in the incident, although authorities said they are still investigating if the death of one Alberto Tolentino, who died of heart attack, was triggered by the tornado. Provincial Disaster Risk Management Office chief Felicisima Mungcal said that based on their initial reports, the tornado whirled through barangays Balungao, Frances, San Miguel, Sapang Bayan, Poblacion, Meysulao, Corazon and Gatbuca at 6 p.m. The twister lasted for 30 minutes. Some of the affected families were evacuated to the Calumpit Sports Complex, where the local government has sent relief goods. This is the first tornado that hit Bulacan after a series of twisters ripped the province in 2007 and 2008. - VVP, GMA News
