Google Doodle pays tribute to children's book author Hargreaves

Search giant Google paid tribute Monday to children's book author with its Google Doodles - some of which appeared to depict forgetfulness. Visitors to Google's home page (www.google.com) were greeted with drawings similar to "Mr. Men" and "Little Miss" — a nod to Roger Hargreaves. Refreshing or reloading the page would yield a different drawing paying tribute to Hargreaves, who died in 1988 and who would have been 76 on Monday. One of the drawings depicts a character appearing to trip on and throw the letters in "Google" in disarray. Another depicts a cartoon character inside a room with the letters Googl, with the "e" left outside the room. Clicking on the doodle would take a visitor to the search results page, topped by a Wikipedia entry on Hargreaves. Hargreaves was born May 9, 1935 and died on Sept. 11, 1988. His "Mr. Men" and "Little Miss" series of books were intended for very young readers, with simple and silly stories and bright-colored illustrations. — RSJ, GMA News
