Negros cops, soldiers support walk for child cancer patients

The police and soldiers in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental threw their support for a two-month walk across the Visayas to raise funds for child cancer patients. Members of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army, along with city bikers extended their support for the “Step Juan Bisaya Adventure Ini" project, led by painter-mountaineer Tomas Leonor. Leonor's team walk for child cancer patients began in Samar on April 4 and aims and will end on May 28 in Boracay Island in Malay, Aklan, the news site Visayan Daily Star reported. Leonor aims to cover around 1,294 kilometers of long highways and pass 33 major cities and 150 towns. The project started around June 2009. Provincial police chief Senior Superintendent Rey Lyndon Lawas, said five police officers from every police station in the province was assigned to join the delegation. The project's website said the program aims to help cure children under the Cancer Warriors Treatment Program. "Step Juan" is a walking expedition from Allen in Samar to Boracay, stopping only for food and rest. "The backbone and foundation for this idea is to raise funds for the cancer children under the Philippine Children's Medical Center," the website said. - VVP, GMA News
