Binay assures justice for shooting victim’s family

Vice President Jejomar Binay has assured the family of a 13-year-old scavenger shot dead in Makati — allegedly by a police officer — that those responsible for the boy’s death will be brought to justice. "Rest assured that this incident will not be forgotten until justice has been served," Binay said in a statement Wednesday on the death of the victim, Christian Serrano. The Vice President, a former mayor of Makati, also pledged that he and his son, Erwin Binay, the incumbent Makati mayor, will shoulder the medical and funeral expenses. Reports on the incident identify Chief Inspector Angelo Germinal as the police officer who allegedly fired at Serrano, who was gathering scrap metal in a condemned building in Barangay San Antonio, Monday afternoon. Southern Police District Director, Chief Superintendent Jose Arne de los Santos, urged Germinal to surrender, or else, he will face criminal and administrative charges as a fugitive. — ELR/VS, GMA News
