The boy was the second victim of a vehicular accident along the 12.4-km Commonwealth Avenue since May 13, when a bus fatally rammed a taxi carrying journalist-professor Lourdes "Chit" Estella-Simbulan. Estella-Simbulan was killed instantly after a Universal Guiding Star bus rammed her taxi. The bus driver, Danilo Espinosa, remains at large. On the other hand, the incident occurred a hours after four suspected bus robbers were shot dead in an encounter with police also along Commonwealth Avenue.
