Driver of bus that killed Chit Estella a 'repeat offender'

The driver of the bus that rammed onto a taxi and killed veteran journalist-professor Lourdes "Chit" Estella-Simbulan on May 13 was a "repeat offender," having been involved in four traffic violations in the last two months, a report of radio dzBB said. Citing records from the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported on Wednesday that driver Daniel Espinosa was involved in at least four "violations" in the last two months, Espinosa's records came up during a meeting between the MMDA and representatives of bus firms and the Labor Department on Wednesday. The report said Espinosa may have eluded sanctions by moving to other bus firms. MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino said he is considering issuing a circular listing the names of bus drivers who are repeat offenders in terms of traffic violations. Espinosa remains at large after fleeing the scene of the May 13 accident. He has been charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide. On Tuesday evening, Espinosa's wife met with the media and insisted that the May 13 incident was the first traffic accident that her husband had ever been involved in. "Siguro sa sobrang takot, first time nagkaganoon. Hindi siguro naisip kung ano ang tamang gawin. (Wala siyang criminal record), mabait ang asawa ko," she said. - VVP, GMA News
