Asus, Acer tablets get Android 3.1 update in June

Tablet makers Asus and Acer will be sending updates for their Android operating systems in early June, upgrading the gadgets to use the improved Android 3.1. An article on tech site Engadget said that Acer's Iconia Tab A500 and Asus' Eee Pad Transformer will benefit from the over-the-air upgrade. "Motorola was first out of the gate with an update, and now, not even a week later, Acer and ASUS are following suit with plans to freshen up their respective tablets with the newly minted software," it said. The latest version of Android will include resizeable widgets, support for USB peripherals, and new Movies and Books apps. Engadget said that Acer has confirmed that it aims to start selling the Iconia Tab A500 with Android 3.1 in June, and upgrade existing units running Android 3.0. On the other hand, Asus announced the impending update for the Eee Pad Transformer on its Italian Facebook page. A separate article on Thisismynext.com noted the remaining Android Honeycomb tablet maker, LG, has yet to give a firm time frame of an upgrade for its G-Slate tablet. It said that LG merely promised that the upgrade was “coming soon." — TJD, GMA News
