Floodwaters slow down traffic in areas in Manila

Floodwaters from Wednesday night’s rains slowed down traffic in several parts of Manila before dawn Thursday. Gutter-deep floods were noted in areas such as the United Nations Avenue cor. Otis Street; and near the Philippine General Hospital along Taft Avenue, radio dzBB’s Rodil Vega reported. But floodwaters remained in many areas mainly due to the clogging of drainage with garbage, the report said. Other areas where drainage systems were clogged by garbage included the area of Quirino Avenue and Taft Avenue, the report added. Rains fell on parts of Metro Manila Wednesday night, but the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said this was not due to any cyclone. PAGASA said the rains were more likely an isolated thunderstorm. — LBG, GMA News
