90th Maguindanao massacre suspect nabbed in GenSan

Authorities on Friday arrested another suspect in the gruesome Maguindanao massacre, bringing to 90 the total number of detained suspects. Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Agrimero Cruz Jr. said suspect Kamper Silongan (alias "Jun") was arrested at the Queen Tuna Park along P. Acharon Boulevard in General Santos City around 10:45 a.m. Among the 90 detained suspects are six prominent members of the powerful Ampatuan clan, including clan patriarch Andal Ampatuan Sr. and his three sons former Datu Unsay mayor Andal Jr, suspended Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Gov. Zaldy, and former Maguindanao officer in charge Sajid. Over 100 massacre suspects still remain at large, more than 500 days after the massacre of 57 people – including 32 journalists – in Barangay Salman in Ampatuan town, Maguindanao in NOv. 2009. Silongan's arrest came more than two months after the arrest of an 89th suspect, Tumi Timba Abas, in March. Of the arrested Ampatuan clan members, only Andal Jr. has been arraigned. He pleaded not guilty. Apart from him, 56 other suspects who were local policemen and militiamen in Maguindanao have been arraigned. Andal Sr.'s reinvestigation request filed with the Court of Appeals has already been denied but the Quezon City Court hearing the multiple murder case has yet to arraign him. — LBG, GMA News
