PNoy leads launching of AFP/PNP housing project


BOCAUE, Bulacan - As early as next month, low salaried military and police personnel can occupy the housing units the government built for them. President Benigno Simeon Aquino III on Monday led the launching of the housing program for some 20,000 military and police personnel. The President conducted a project visit in Bocaue Hills in Barangay Batia here where 4,000 of the planned 20,000 housing units will be built. The building of the houses started on April 15 and is expected to be completed on October 15 but the beneficiaries can already occupy the finished houses on June 15. Other housing sites are at various stages of construction in San Jose del Monte and Norzagaray, also in Bulacan; Baras and Rodriguez in Rizal; Calamba in Laguna, and Trece Martires City and General Trias in Cavite. The beneficiaries can choose the housing package and where they would want to reside. The government subsidized P35,000 of the cost of the unit. The government earlier earmaked P4.2 billion for the housing project as stated under Administrative Order 9 which Aquino signed on April 11, 2011. Under AO 9, the National Housing Authority will take the lead in the implementation of the AFP/PNP housing program. Also present during the launching were Vice President Jejomar Binay, who is also Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council; Senator Antonio Trillanes IV; Joel Villanueva, director general of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority; Interior Secretary Jesse Robredo, Bulacan Governor Willy Alvarado, Armed Forces chief Gen. Eduardo Oban Jr. and National Police chief Director General Raul Bacalzo. Bacalzo, in his speech, said the housing project would address the problem of six out of 10 policemen who do not have their own houses.
