‘Chedeng’ affects 8,418, causes P10.906M in damage

Barely 24 hours after entering Philippine territory, tropical storm "Chedeng" (Songda) has affected over 8,000 people and caused P10.906 million in damage to property, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Tuesday night. In its 6 p.m. update, the NDRRMC said floods caused by the monsoon enhanced by "Chedeng" last Monday affected 1,491 families or 8,258 people in Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, prompting the town to declare affected villages under state of calamity. However, the NDRRMC said that as of 3 p.m. Tuesday, there had been no initial report of evacuees staying in evacuation centers. Also, the enhanced monsoon also caused flash floods that affected 19 villages in Sto. Tomas town in Davao del Norte. It said 983 hectares of agricultural production were damaged and the estimated cost of the damage is P5,418,858, while on infrastructure it is at P5,488,125, with an overall total of P10,906,983.

Stranded As of 1 p.m. Tuesday, 486 people, 24 trucks, two cars, 11 buses, six vessels and seven motor bancas were stranded in Bicol ports including Tabaco (Albay); Matnog, Bulan and Pilar (Sorsogon); and Virac and San Andres (Catanduanes). In Ifugao, the Banaue–Hungduan-Benguet Boundary Road(km.364+500) was closed as of 7 a.m. Monday due to slides. Km 360+200 was closed as of 6 a.m. Tuesday also due to slides. In Mt. Province, the Mt. Province-Cagayan via Tabuk-Enrile Road (km410+300 Makute Section) was closed due to slide. In Davao del Norte, roads in Barangays San Miguel and Kinamayan, Sto. Tomas were impassable. — KBK, GMA News
