DOST: Summer over, rainy season now here

Summer is over, and the rainy season has started with the southwest monsoon bringing rains to Metro Manila and other parts of the country, the Department of Science and Technology said Friday. DOST Undersecretary Graciano Yumul Jr. also said: "Kung Metro Manila ang pinag-uusapan natin, [ang ulan dito ay] dala ng hanging habagat." In an interview on dzBB, Yumul added the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) was to make a "formal" announcement on the rainy season's start at 11 a.m. He said the start of the rainy season will mean a wet weekend in parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila. Also, he said rains are expected in Metro Manila until at least next Thursday. Earlier, PAGASA said typhoon "Chedeng" (Songda) was to enhance the monsoon and usher in the start of the rainy season. Chedeng had moved north as of Friday morning, with PAGASA forecasting it to exit Philippine territory this Sunday. "Ito ay kumikilos northward, papuntang Taiwan. Tapos magre-recurve papunta Southern Japan," Yumul said. — LBG, GMA News
