6 killed in Aklan road accident, police say

Six people were killed after a truck collided with a motorcycle and plowed into a house last Thursday in Aklan province, a police official said. Nabas town police chief Inspector Renante Matillano said the brakes of Wing van truck (plate number NQY 357) driven by 33-year-old Joe Marie Arcillas malfunctioned and accidentally collided with a motorcycle (plate number 2016-FK) while on the way to Caticlan town around 4 p.m. Thursday. In a phone interview with GMA News Online on Friday, Matillano said Arcilla and the motorcycle's driver Diego Saluta Sr. only sustained minor injuries but Saluta's back rider Maria Estrada died even before she was rushed to the Ibajay District Hospital in Aklan. After the collision, the truck plowed into a house in Barangay Solido in Nabas town owned by a certain Boy Magallanes, killing its occupants Agnes Caigoy, Isiaiah Kim Caingoy, Salvacion Caigoy, Salvador Espadero Jr., and Vary Caigoy. "It was negligence on the part of the driver," said Matillano. Arcilla has reportedly been arrested while authorities mull the filing of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and physical injuries charges. — with Kimberly Jane Tan/RSJ, GMA News
