Quake hits Davao Or; 3 others recorded across PHL


A magnitude-5 quake rocked Davao Oriental province Friday night, even as at least three predawn quakes were recorded in Luzon and Mindanao Saturday. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology (Phivolcs) said the Davao Oriental quake was recorded at 10:19 p.m., and was tectonic in origin. It said the epicenter was 119 km southeast of Mati, Davao Oriental. Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity II in General Santos and Kidapawan Cities. Meanwhile, at least three predawn quakes rocked Luzon and Mindanao Saturday, but there was no initial report of damage or casualty. Phivolcs said the first predawn quake measuring magnitude 3.5 was recorded in Isabela province at 1:31 a.m. It said the epicenter was 66 km southeast of Palanan town in Isabela. A second predawn quake measuring magnitude 2.5 was recorded at 3:15 a.m. in Occidental Mindoro. Its epicenter was 32 km northwest of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro. The third predawn quake measuring magnitude 3.3 was recorded at 3:29 a.m., with the epicenter at 112 km southwest of Isulan, Sultan Kudarat. No damage or aftershock was expected from the quakes, Phivolcs said. — LBG, GMA News
